Basti in India, is a village. And bazaar, of course, is a marketplace. Now you may call me biased but I will tell you that in a world of hypermarkets and mega malls, our little village bazaar can hold it’s own. From safety pins to pickled mango, you will find every thing you need — and those you never knew you needed!
Like tambul pata or tobacco leaves, for instance. Roll your own cigarette, sit back and enjoy the drag. Ah bliss!
As you can imagine, all the produce is one hundred percent organic though nothing is labeled so!
If the sun comes up too strong, you can always chill with some home-brewed rice beer and a plate of fried chicken.
What’s more, you can even visit the salon for a quick haircut — there’s no need of a prior appointment either!

What a lovely blog – and how fascinating to have a little window into such a different life! Here I am in the UK, in a 600 year old cottage. We have a farmers market in our village every Friday, where you can buy baked cakes and free range eggs and garden and far, grown vegetables and salad… and little things made by crafts people, knitted and sewn, and some jewellery. We cannot buy pickled mango and that is something I have never had! I LOVE mango, my favourite fruit, only experienced for the fist time about 5 years ago. Are you visiting other blogs?
